I promised that if I saw another poll that showed Libertarian Robert Sarvis with a nice percentage I would write about it: Well, it happened and even better it is encouraging for E W Jackson too!
The Roanoke College poll shows Sarvis at 5%. But it also shows this:
In the down-ticket races, Democrat Ralph Northam and Republican E. W. Jackson were statistically tied for lieutenant governor (Northam-30%, Jackson-28%, Undecided-41%),
Cuccinelli has a six point lead (37%-31%) over McAuliffe. There is a surprisingly close race for Attorney General with a four point lead for Obenshain but an astounding 38% undecided.
Moral: This race is wide open. I’ll blog in a day or two on what Cuccinelli needs to do to win the race. And how Sarvis can win although it will be a long shot! Hint: Sarvis needs a Trevor Lyman to set up a money bomb for immediate cash (people can give as much as they want in state races although if the total is over $100, the donation must be reported) and get that message on the air – radio and some TV, too.
Let me answer the comment from Anonymous who said that my analysis on the Jackson race was completely wrong.
First, I thank Anonymous – he or she is one of my most faithful readers and commenters! And I speak subject to any special knowledge he or she has a polling and politics. But my take on this is this: I believe that even after one of the most unfair and slanted press coverage given to any candidate, still the majority of people polled did not have an opinion on Jackson nor was the lead for Senator Northam was only seven points. I would agree with Anonymous that if the undecideds were only a few percent and Northam was over 50% and it was a few days before the election – I’d be a lot more concerned. But this is good news: In a Democrat-leaning poll, their candidate only has a seven point lead over the Republican hopeful in the face of the media trying to paint the GOP candidate as extreme. Jackson can win – but Cuccinelli needs to embrace Jackson to win this election. Tea Partiers and libertarian conservatives have a place to go and they will use that ballot to sink the Republican. They can vote for Sarvis.
